Computer science is nowadays one of the most vibrant, fast-growing, and influential disciplines. Not only does it provide important technological tools for humans to solve various global challenges, but it also offers new research methods for material science, life science, astronomy and earth science, energy research, ecology, and environmental science. New interdisciplinary subjects and cutting-edge technologies with computer science as the core are constantly emerging, such as computational physics, computational chemistry, computational biology, and computational finance. Computer science has indeed become a crucial nexus for the development of interdisciplinary research and studies.
Founded in 2008 by the master mathematician Prof. Shing-Tung Yau, the S. -T. Yau High School Science Award inspires scientific innovations and is designed for Chinese high school students all over the world. Advocating innovative thinking and collaborative spirits, the Award dispenses with paper-delivered test format or standardized test answers and instead gives students the opportunity to participate by submitting academic papers. The Award aims at promoting the development of science education in high schools, stimulating students’ research interests and innovative capabilities, as well as discovering and cultivating young talents in scientific disciplines.
- Stimulate students’ interest in Computer research among high school students
- Encourage innovation in thinking among high school students
- Cultivate young computer talents
- Encourage articulation between high school teachers and university professors
